Five ways to beon court this week.

The club calendar runs thirteen clinics a week across tennis, padel and junior play — plus a stringing room and a match ladder that decides itself on Friday afternoons.

01
Clay, singles & doubles

Tennis clinic

Morning sessions on Courts 1 through 3. Drills drawn from the Mouratoglou playbook: tactical depth, heavy topspin, the forehand that still wins in October. Limited to four players per session.

4 players · 90 min
02
Covered cages, panoramic glass

Padel academy

We brought in two coaches from the Costa del Sol to run evening padel. Wall work, bandeja, víbora, the angle off the side glass that splits the court. Beginner drop-ins welcomed.

Junior rally

Saturdays belong to the juniors. Red ball through yellow ball, proper backswing instruction, match play by 11am. Parents watch from the veranda with espressos.

Match play ladder

Rotating ladder across A, B and C flights. Results are chalked on the bar board by Friday. A cup is handed out each May. Nobody who has won it has stopped smiling since.

In-house, same day

Stringing room

Gut, polyester, hybrids. Our stringer Luc has been pulling tension on the same Baiardo for eleven years. Same-day turnaround for any racquet dropped before noon.

The morning routine

A match day,
one hour at a time.

Volley is a club of small ritual. The nets come up at six. The clay is dragged at eleven. The veranda fills at noon. The match chalkboard is updated at five. Repeat.

1973 → 2026 · 4,217 match day entries
06:12 · Nets up

Guillaume has run the courts since 1989. He pulls the tapes taut, sets the nets to thirty-six inches centre, and by a quarter past the first members are on Court One.

01/04
07:45 · First clinic

Romane runs the dawn tennis clinic. Four players, ninety minutes, a drill book she has carried since her tour days. The espresso machine in the clubhouse cuts on at eight sharp.

02/04
11:00 · Dragging the clay

The weighted drags come out and the lines are chalked. Our clay is from the Roland-Garros brickworks — roughly 1.2 tonnes of crushed brick per court, replaced every spring.

03/04
17:00 · The chalkboard

Match results are written up by hand. The ladder moves. The veranda fills. The padel cages throw echoes off the glass. A Friday is a good Friday when the board is full.

The tally, by hand.

A small handful of numbers that tell most of the story. Audited quietly, by the club secretary, with a brass fountain pen.

The staff you will know by name.

Four pros, one stringer, one secretary who remembers your birthday. Between them, eighty-one years on court and not an ounce of hurry.

01 / FR

Romane Delacroix

Head Professional · Tennis

Former WTA #118. Twelve years on clay — the type who still chases a drop shot barefoot if she needs to. Coach's diploma, Fédération Française.

02 / ES

Théodore Beaumont

Padel Director

Madrid-trained, World Padel Tour qualifier six seasons. Teaches the side-glass rebound like it is choreography, not a drill.

03 / NL

Iris van Leeuwenhoek

Junior Development

Dutch youth national coach, 2014–2020. She will correct a backhand grip without ever stopping the point. The juniors adore her.

04 / CL

Nicolás Ruiz-Tagle

Strings · Racquet Lab

Eleven years on the Baiardo. Customises tension to your game in under twenty minutes. Keeps a logbook of every frame he has ever strung.

A note from the secretary
"We are a small club. We are an old club. We mean to remain both. Between the dawn drag and the five-o'clock chalkboard, nothing has ever really changed — and that is, we believe, the entire point."
E. H. Marchetti · Club Secretary since 1998

What the members say.

Letter 1 of 3
"I joined in 1987. My father was a member in 1974. My daughter just won the junior cup last spring. Some clubs keep a roster — Volley keeps a family book."

Before the letter

Questions, plainly answered.

  • Volley is a private members' club of six hundred and fourteen players. We accept new members by invitation of a current member or by letter of application to the secretary. There is a waiting list of roughly eight months for adult singles membership; family memberships move faster.

  • All four outdoor clay courts close between late November and early March while the surface is renewed. The two covered padel cages and the indoor hard court run year-round, and we keep a smaller roster of winter clinics going through the cold months.

  • Yes. The annual Coupe de Volley runs each May across six days, open to A and B flight members. We also host one regional junior event in August and a members' doubles round-robin in October.

  • Whites preferred on Courts 1 and 2; predominantly light colour on 3 and 4 and the padel cages. Non-marking court shoes at all times — our clay is imported from Roland-Garros brickworks and is treated accordingly.
